Gynedd Valley, Pa. - (11/8/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (1-0) kicked off their 2023-2024 season at the Griffin Complex taking on King's College (Pa.) (0-1). Both teams met in the season opener the previous season with the Monarchs playing host and the Griffins securing a dominant 75-50 victory. Things were much closer this time for both teams, but thanks to a career night from senior guard Ava Casale (Washington Township, N.J.) Gwynedd Mercy garnered a 1-0 record to start the season with a 61-56 victory. Casale finished with a career-high 22 points on 7-15 from the field and 5-8 from beyond the arc. Casale also recorded four rebounds, three steals, and an assist on her stat sheet. 
 
Griffin Highlights: 

• The lone starter from the 2022-2023 season is senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) as she picked everyone's pockets tonight with a game-high five steals to go along with nine points on 2-9 shooting from the field. 
• Junior guard Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) was just a rebound shy of a double-double as Eagan finished with 12 points with nine rebounds. 
• It was seen early on that the Griffins were the hungrier team on the glass as Gwynedd Mercy nearly doubled King's College (Pa.) in the rebound category 56-38 with the Griffins finishing with 24 offensive rebounds leading to 21 second-chance points.

 
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Friday, November 10, when they host the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-off Tournament as they take on Penn State Berks for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
