Scranton, Pa. (10/28/2023) - The number six ranked Gwynedd Mercy University (4-8-6, 2-4-1) traveled to the number three ranked Marywood University (8-8-2, 3-2-2) in a quarter-final bout in the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Championship Tournament. The Griffins had multiple chances in the first half to bury the ball in the net but after a 0-0 first half the Pacers went on to score three goals in the second half and end the Gwynedd Mercy 2023 season with a 3-0 loss. John Wagner (Phoenixville, Pa.) finished the game starting all 90 minutes in goal for the Griffins and five saves in the loss.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy came out of the gate with energy and a lot of momentum as both graduate midfielder captain Hugh Lynch (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior midfielder Kasey Wallace (Audubon, N.J.) just missed the back of the net as both of their shots went wide left to the net with the former getting his opportunity at the 12:29 mark and the later at the 18:45 mark.
- Wallace finished with a team-high two shots as the Griffins were outshot 23-6 with Gwynedd Mercy only getting two shots in the entire second half.
- Freshman defenseman Axel Mayren (Atlantic City, N.J.) was the only player for Gwynedd Mercy to register a shot on goal.
Gwynedd Mercy University finishes the 2023 season with a 4-8-6 overall record and a 3-2-2 AEC standing.
