Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/14/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-3-3, 1-0-2) played host to Immaculata University (3-10-1, 0-3-0) where before the game started the Griffins two senior midfielders on the team
Ireland Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Inez Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) were honored for Senior Day. Both seniors were able to walk away extra excited as Gwynedd Mercy University picked up their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) win of the season with a 1-0 final.
Griffin Highlights:
- Just before the ten-minute (9:46) mark freshman forward Ksenia Semenovykh (Warrington, Pa.) placed a beautiful through ball past two Mighty Mac defenders allowing sophomore forward captain Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) to outrun the two defenders and get her shot just out of reach of the Immaculata's goalies hands. This goal was Beinlich's fifth of the season and Semenovykh's second assist of the season.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Madisson Ronn (Warrington, Pa.) started the first 45 minutes of the contest finishing with three saves and earring the win (2-3-3), however sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) started the second half and made a few key saves as the Mighty Macs controlled most of the play in the second half. Gablein finished with five saves in the contest.
- The defense for the Griffins did an outstanding job holding Immaculata to one-and-done opportunities as the Mighty Macs outshot the Griffins 24-10.
Gwynedd Mercy looks to make it two wins in a row as they will travel to Marywood University on Wednesday, October 18, for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
