Langhorne, Pa. - (9/21/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University ended a tightly-played contest at Cairn University with shots from freshmen forwards
Jordyn Basile (Quakertown, Pa.) (79:25) and
Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) (81:15, 87:41), but they could not change the outcome as today's contest ended in a scoreless stalemate, 0-0. Beinlich led the Griffins with five shots, including a first-half penalty kick that was denied by the Highlander goalkeeper at 41:16.
Cairn University (4-3-1) was the aggressor in the first half, keeping Gwynedd Mercy University (2-3-3) on their heels with a 9-3 shot advantage. In the second half, the Griffins took charge after successfully defending a series of early Highlander corner kicks. Shots from sophomore defender
Abby Marquess (Feasterville Trevose, Pa.) (62:26) and freshman midfielder
Dakota Fryns (Dracut, Mass.) (62:30, 64:08) highlighted a mid-period surge from Gwynedd Mercy University, but only the last made it to the awaiting hands of the Cairn University goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the later offerings from Basile and Beinlich met the same fate in the scoreless conclusion.
Beinlich put three of her five shots on goal. Fryns finished with three shots, while Basile and Marquess accounted for the other two. Freshman goalkeeper
Madisson Ronn (Warrington, Pa.) preserved the tie (1-2-2) with 10 saves.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 24, when they host Alfred State College for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
