Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (9/24-2022) – Gwynedd Mercy University welcomed Alfred State College for this afternoon's contest. Alfred State put the pressure on early with a goal just past the 17-minute mark (1-0, 17:01) and added a late first-half score (2-0, 44:05) while outshooting the Griffins 25-13 in today's 2-0 final. Freshman goalkeeper Madisson Ronn (Warrington, Pa.) was busy throughout the game and finished with 15 saves in the loss (1-4-3).
Alfred State College (2-4) capitalized on their early offensive pressure just past the 17-minute mark; 1-0 (17:01). As time was winding down in the first half, the Pioneers used an odd-woman rush to score their second goal (2-0, 44:05) on the final shot of a 16-3 first-half advantage. Gwynedd Mercy University (2-4-3) turned up the pressure in the second half, allowing senior defensemen Claudia Krouse (Southampton, Pa.) to put a couple of shots on the net (60:23, 80:56) and attempt to find the head of sophomore defensemen Abby Marquess (Feasterville Trevose, Pa.) on a corner kick (77:13). Unfortunately, the Griffins came away empty-handed.
Krouse and Marquess finished with two shots apiece, but freshman forward Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) took a team-high three shots.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action tomorrow Sunday, September 25, when they visit Penn College for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
