Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/14/2022) - Senior defender
Claudia Krouse (Southampton, Pa.) served a perfect pass over the Rosemont College defense, to the oncoming head of freshman midfielder
Dakota Fryns (Dracut, Mass.) in the 73rd minute (1-0, 72:16) of this afternoon's contest. To character, the tightly played game was tied by the Ravens just over two minutes later (1-1, 74:42) and it remained that way through the end of regulation as Gwynedd Mercy University battled Rosemont College to a 1-1 stalemate.
Rosemont College (1-1-1) held a slight advantage over Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2-2) in shots (14-10) and corner kicks (3-1), but the Griffins offered heart and physicality more than made up for the extra opportunities. Krouse captained the Gwynedd Mercy University back line and fired the Griffins' first shot (12:57) on the Raven goal. Later offerings came from senior midfielder
Kelsey Breisch (Schwenksville, Pa.) (25:19) and Fryns, who foreshadowed her later success with a header wide of the net late in the first half (30:44). After intermission, Gwynedd Mercy University looked to locate freshmen
Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) and
Jordyn Basile (Quakertown, Pa.) early and often, but instead a Krouse kick in the 73rd minute found Fryns' head and forged the Griffins a 1-0 (72:16) advantage. Unfortunately, a Rosemont College carry down the near sideline resulted in a tic-tack-toe strike just 2:26 later; 1-1 (74:42). In the closing minutes of regulation, the Ravens tested freshman goalkeeper
Madisson Ronn (Warrington, Pa.) a couple times (76:54, 83:17) as well as the post (76:58) and the crossbar (85:27), but it was Gwynedd Mercy University who took the last shot when Krouse sent one wide left of the Raven goal at 88:14.
Fryns led the Griffins with three shots and her first collegiate goal. Basile and Krouse each offered two, while three others - including Beinlich - took one. Freshman goalkeeper
Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned the decision (0-1-1) with three first-half saves. Ronn totaled five saves in the second half.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their schedule on Saturday, September 17, when they visit Bryn Athyn for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
