Clarks Summit, Pa. - (9/10/2022) - Freshman forward
Bethany Beinlich (Forksville, Pa.) buried two more goals (46:22, 56:24), but the tallies were not enough to earn Gwynedd Mercy University a win in this afternoon's contest as Clarks Summit University scored last (71:23) in a 2-2 tie. Despite a 28-15 shot deficit, the Griffins controlled the advantage for a good portion of the second half as Beinlich tied the contest with a penalty kick shortly after halftime (1-1, 46:22) and gave the Griffins the lead ten minutes later (2-1, 56:24) with an unassisted score. Unfortunately, a Defender goal in the 72nd minute served as the final tally of a 2-2 (71:23) stalemate.
Clarks Summit University (0-1-2) took more shots in both halves, but held a 1-0 lead just after the two-minute mark (2:14). The Defenders carried their advantage through intermission, but shortly after a Beinlich scored her penalty kick opportunity and pushed Gwynedd Mercy University (2-1-1) ahead with her second score. From there, the Griffins held the advantage until the late Defender score evened the affair for good.
Beinlich totaled a team-high eight shots. Fellow freshman
Jordyn Basile (Quakertown, Pa.) offered three more, while additional Griffin shots came from freshman defender
Natalie Gablein (Philadelphia, Pa.) (17:14), sophomore defender
Rachel Ricci (Telford, Pa.), senior midfielder
Kelsey Breisch (Schwenksville, Pa.) (41:40), and freshman midfielder
Kailah Tumelty (Warminster, Pa.) (17:52).
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex on Tuesday, September 13, when they host Lancaster Bible College for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
