Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/5/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-17) extended their current winning streak to four games with today's victories over Cairn University (3-13). The first came quickly, as the Griffins took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, outscored the Highlanders by a 3-2 measure in a busy third inning, and rendered a late visitor run meaningless with five runs in the fourth inning. The result was a 12-3 Griffin victory. In game two, a string of fourth-inning singles propelled Gwynedd Mercy University to victory. Sophomore Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.), sophomore right fielder Ava Casale (Sewell, N.J.), and sophomore left fielder Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) knocked in runs to tie the contest at 5-5. After, Cairn University briefly took a 7-6 lead before a two-run single from sophomore shortstop Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) and a two-run triple from designated player Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave the Griffins the distance they needed in an eventual 10-8 conclusion.

Cordero was brilliant in the lead-off role, going 7-for-7 with four runs scored and a run-batted-in (RBI). Baumeister was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI in the opener. In game two she went 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Focht also recorded three hits (3-for-4) in game two; she scored three times and knocked in two. In the first game, she earned her second win (2-7) of the season by holding the Highlanders to three runs on seven hits and a walk. She struck out six.
