Scranton, Pa. - (4/11/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-19, 3-3) visited Marywood University (14-6, 7-1) for a pair of Atlantic East Conference contests this afternoon. The Pacers extended an early 2-0 advantage with a five-run fourth inning, 7-0, and added the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth; 8-0 (6). The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the third and fourth innings of the nightcap as a sacrifice fly from sophomore designated player Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) and a single to right field from junior outfielder Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) respectively scored the tying and go-ahead runs; 2-1. Unfortunately, Marywood University got one back in the bottom of the fourth, 2-2, and ended the game in walk-off fashion with one-out single to second base.

Sophomore shortstop Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) was 2-for-3 in the opener and 1-for-4 in game two. Sophomore third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) had the other Gwynedd Mercy University hit in game one. She was 1-for-3 with a run in game two. Carney (2-for-3, R, RBI) and sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) (2-for-3) were the only Griffins to record multiple hits in game two. Baumeister held the Pacers to three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in the loss (3-6).

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, April 12, as they welcome Cabrini University for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
