Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/5/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (9-14, 2-4) walked off with today's game and the AEC season series versus Marywood University (14-6, 3-3) on a single through the left side of the Pacer infield from senior pitcher/designated hitter
Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) that plated sophomore center fielder
Barry Walker (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) for the 4-3 Griffin victory. Collins was 2-for-5 with the game-winning run-batted-in (RBI). Senior second baseman
Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) helped keep the Griffin offense going with singles in the first, seventh, and ninth. Sophomore
Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) (1.0 IP, 3K) pitched a brilliant ninth inning, striking out the side and collecting his second win (2-1) as a benefactor of the walk off.
A single to right from senior first baseman
Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) gave Gwynedd Mercy University the base runner it needed to score in the bottom of the second inning. An out later, Price moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a single down the right field line from senior catcher
Nate Campbell (Royersford, Pa.); 1-0. Marywood tied the game in the top of the third inning, 1-1, leaving scoreless middle innings to precipitate a dramatic finish. Campbell led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field. He then stole second and soon after moved to third base on a ground ball to first base. Walker's sacrifice fly gave the Griffins the lead, 2-1, but the lead was short-lived as Marywood University grabbed a one-run lead of their own with a two-out double to the right-center gap; 3-2. The Griffin ninth was the fitting end to the affair. It started like the others before it with Campbell aboard on a walk. He was relieved of his running duties by senior
Jack Jamison (Fort Washington, Pa.), who stole second base and hustled home an out later on a well-bunted ball by Walker, 3-3. A Martell single put two Griffins aboard and a walk to senior right fielder
T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) loaded them. After an infield fly, Collins was the hero with his single through the left side of the Pacer infield.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Friday, April 8, when they visit Centenary University for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
