Radnor, Pa. - (4/29/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (16-19, 9-7) and Cabrini University (24-8, 8-4) began their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) series with today's nine-inning affair. The Cavaliers scored first with a run in the second inning, 1-0, and the Griffins answered with two runs in the top of the third as two-out walks to senior right fielder T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) and senior left fielder Brett Swire (Boyertown, Pa.) set the table for an error at third, 1-1, and a run-scoring single to second base from junior Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.); 2-1. Unfortunately, Cabrini University evened the score in the bottom of the second inning, 2-2, and grabbed a one-run lead with a fourth-inning squeeze; 3-2. A Price lead-off double turned into the tying run in the top of the eighth inning, but a 10-run bottom of the eighth propelled the home team to an eventual 13-4 final.

In addition to Price (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Braiser (1-for-4, BB, 2 R), and Swire (1-for-2, BB, R), senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) (1-for-5, RBI) recorded a hit for Gwynedd Mercy University. Senior pitcher Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) picked up a run-batted-in (RBI) on the Cavalier error in the third inning. He also took the loss despite holding Cabrini University to three runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out two.

Gwynedd Mercy University and Cabrini University continue their AEC series tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, when they Griffins host the Cavaliers for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
