Washington, DC - (4/24/2022) - Senior catcher Nate Campbell (Royersford, Pa.) connected for his third home run of the season in the third inning of the opener; 1-0. In the fifth, he sacrificed home junior first baseman Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) to give Gwynedd Mercy University (16-17, 9-6) a 2-0 lead over Marymount University (21-12, 4-8). Unfortunately, the Saints scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, 4-2. The two-run lead was just enough for them to defeat the Griffins as only senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) reached home on an error in the sixth-inning of thrilling 4-3 final. Gwynedd Mercy University got revenge in game two, batting-in 10 ninth-inning runs to recover from a 9-6 deficit and insure a 16-14 victory.

Campbell's home run was one of five Gwynedd Mercy University hits in game one, but it was the only one to knock in a run. In the sixth inning, Martell (0-for-2, R) got hit by a pitch, stole second and third, before hurrying home on on a fielding error by the Marymount University second baseman. The combination of junior Trey Livingstone (Pennsburg, Pa.) and sophomore Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB) only allowed three hits, but six walks helped the Saints stay ahead. Livingstone (4.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 5 K) struck out five in the loss (2-3). 

Marymount University had their swing down early in the second game as they homered once in the second inning and back-to-back-to-back in the third inning to grab a 5-0 lead. Senior designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) singled in a pair of Griffin runs in the fourth inning, 5-2, and the Gwynedd Mercy University rally continued with a four-run seventh inning that gave them a brief 6-5 advantage as a pair of Saint scores in the seventh and eighth innings pushed the home team back ahead for a 9-6 lead. In the ninth, a run-scoring single from freshman shortstop Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and a two-run double from senior left fielder Brett Swire (Boyertown, Pa.) highlighted a 10-run frame that also included five Marymount University errors and couple walks. Five Griffins recorded multiple hits, Swire (2-for-5, 4 R, 3 RBI) and Collins (2-for-5, 3 RBI) were among them and each knocked in three runs.
