Josie Okyere (Lakewood, N.J.), before additional Gwynedd Mercy University points came in at number three (8-1), five (8-1), and number one (8-2) singles.
Backich and Okyere teamed for Gwynedd Mercy University's first point of the match as they won number three doubles by an 8-1 margin. Senior
Jen Eisemann (Langhorne, Pa.) and sophomore
Nicole Rival (Mickleton, N.J.) followed with a matching 8-1 win at number two doubles, before sophomores
Casey Meenan (Perkasie, Pa.) and
Moira Ryan (King of Prussia, Pa.) secured the top team flight by an 8-6 measure.
In singles, Backich extended the Griffin lead to 4-0 with her 8-0 win at number six singles and Okyere cemented the Gwynedd Mercy University victory with her 8-1 win at number four singles. Afterwards, Ryan won number three singles (8-1), Rival won number five singles (8-1), and Meenan took number one singles (8-2). Bryn Athyn College spoiled the shutout with an 8-5 win at number two singles.
Gwynedd Mercy University opens their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Wednesday, April 6, when they visit Cabrini University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
