Montclair, N.J. - (3/5/2022) - A trio of late scores (9:34, 8:01, 0:40) from freshman midfielder Richie Hughes (Turnersville, N.J.) headlined today's effort at Montclair State University (1-2) as the Eagles owned a 22-0 (1:27) advantage before Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2)  got on the scoreboard in an eventual 23-3 (0:40) conclusion. Hughes took a team-high nine shots, putting four on goal. Freshman midfielder Michael Knapp (Harleysville, Pa.) and sophomore defenseman Pat O'Neill (Pennsauken, N.J.) supported; the former offered five shots, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers, while the latter booked three ground balls and a caused turnover. In goal, junior Chase McFeeley (Mullica Hill, N.J.) and senior Aubron Swartley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) split the 60 minutes. McFeeley made seven saves in the loss (0-1) and Swartley made five saves.

Montclair State University put nines goal in net in each of the first two quarter, 18-0 (2:59), and added four more in the third quarter (22-0, 1:27) before Hughes outscored them 3-1 in the final 15 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington, N.J.) assisted on the last Hughes tally.

Gwynedd Mercy University competes next on Wednesday, March 16, when they travel to Bryn Athyn College for a 4:00 p.m.
