Glenside, Pa. - (3/23/2022) - Arcadia University (3-6) opened this evening's contest with a six straight scores (12:32, 11:44, 10:44, 5:20, 4:18, 3:38), leaving a late goal from freshman attack Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.) (6-1, 1:20) to get Gwynedd Mercy University (6-4) on the scoreboard; 6-1. The second quarter was even with the Knights gaining an 8-1 (11:07) foothold before Griffin goals from senior midfielder Laura Pelczar (Philadelphia, Pa.) (9:28) and sophomore attack Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) (3:03) trimmed the halftime margin back to five goals; 8-3. Unfortunately, Arcadia University's 6-2 third quarter was too much for Gwynedd Mercy University to recover from with a 2-0 fourth-quarter spread; 14-7 (7:12).

Pelczar and Varilla scored twice apiece; the former added four ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover, while the latter also recorded four ground balls. Bloom, senior defender Seydel Acuna (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2:18, 3QTR), and senior attack Anna Grace Bernicker (Merion Station, Pa.) (13:52, 4QTR) recorded a goal apiece. Bloom hustled to a ground ball, Acuna additionally recorded three ground balls and a caused turnover, and Bernicker also provided an assist and a couple ground balls. Senior midfielder Meleah Hoats (Conyngham, Pa.) offered two assists, six ground balls, two draws, and three caused turnovers. In goal, junior Reilly Owens (Pottstown, Pa.) recorded 18 saves, matching her season and career-highs. She also recovered five ground balls.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action next Wednesday, March 30, when they host Ursinus College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
