Swartley and Lockhart Lead Griffin Effort in Loss at Moravian University

Bethlehem, Pa. - (3/19/2022) - Sophomore midfielder GianLuca Lockhart (Turnersville, N.J.) scored four first-half goals - two on the man-up - to keep Gwynedd Mercy University (2-3) on the Greyhounds heels in this afternoon's affair. Unfortunately, Moravian University (3-1) added to a 6-4 first-quarter advantage with a 6-1 second-quarter spread that propelled the home team for an eventual 18-7 win. Senior goalkeeper Aubron Swartley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) took the loss (2-2) despite recording a program all-time game-high 25 saves. He also provided two ground balls. Lockhart scored his four goals on eight shots. He also recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Moravian University scored the first three goals (12:45, 10:01, 9:48) of the contest and traded goals with Gwynedd Mercy University over the remainder of the first quarter; Lockhart scored the first three Griffin goals and senior attack Cameron Ostroff (Wilmington, Del.) the last (6-4, 0:01) as the Griffins cut the Greyhounds lead to 6-4 with his last-second tally. Unfortunately, Moravian University opened the second quarter with a three-goal (13:34, 12:32, 9:56) run and closed it with another (3:13, 2:18, 0:07) that left Lockhart's four goal - and second man-up score - as Gwynedd Mercy University's only tally of the frame; 12-5. A 2-0 Greyhound third quarter made the difference 14-5 (1:06) and their 4-2 fourth-quarter advantage gave little hope to a Griffin rally.

In addition to Lockhart and Ostroff, Gwynedd Mercy University goals were scored by sophomore midfielder Nick Flamma (Sewell, N.J.) (13:53, 4QTR) and sophomore midfielder Tyler Long (Downingtown, Pa.) (6:13, 4QTR). Flamma assisted on Long's goal. Sophomore attack Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) offered a pair of helpers, while sophomore midfielder Justin Carney (Flemington, N.J.) was responsible for the other; the former also caused a turnover, while the latter recovered two ground balls. Senior defenseman Brendan Donovan (Fort Bragg, N.C.) captained the Griffin backfield with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Wednesday, March 23, when they visit Messiah University for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
