Philadelphia, Pa. - (3/1/2022) - Recent weather forced today's game versus the University of Valley Forge (0-5) to playable grounds at James Ramp Memorial Recreation Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There, Gwynedd Mercy University (3-3) grabbed an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, 3-0. The Griffins added tallies in the second (4-0), fourth (5-0), and fifth (6-0), before adding plenty of cushion for a strong start from sophomore Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) with a run-scoring hits from senior shortstop Rob Bailey (Abington, Pa.) and senior catch T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) in the sixth inning; 9-0. The Patriots put a run on the board in the seventh inning, 9-1, but a rally was never in sight as the Gwynedd Mercy University bullpen held firm in an eventual 13-1 final.

Senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) and Brasier continue to carry a hot bats at the top of the Gwynedd Mercy University lineup; the former was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, three walks, and three stolen bases (3-for-3) in the lead-off spot, while the latter was 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base (1-for-1), and three runs-batted-in (RBI). Senior left fielder Brett Swire (Boyertown, Pa.) was 3-for-4 with three runs and a RBI on his first-inning triple down the right field line. Bailey finished 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI. Ebling earned his first win (1-0) of the season as he allowed the Patriots just two hits and two walks in the first five innings. He struck out three. The Griffin bullpen was solid, allowing just an unearned run the seventh inning; 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K.

Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Friday, March 4, when they take on the University of Mary Washington in a 4:00 p.m. game at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
