Union, N.J. - (2/19/2022) - The 2022 baseball season opened this afternoon for Gwynedd Mercy University (0-1) as the Griffins traveled to Kean University (5-0) for the first nine innings of the spring. There, the Cougars tallied three runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning before the Griffins used a walk to sophomore right fielder Barry Walker (Egg Harbor City, N.J.), a double down the left field line from senior center fielder Jack Jamison (Fort Washington, Pa.), a fielder's choice, and a balk to score the final run in the fifth inning of an eventual 5-1 final.

Senior third baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base at the top of the Griffin batting order, while Jamison (1-for-3), senior first baseman Brett Swire (Boyertown, Pa.) (1-for-4), senior left fielder T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) (1-for-4), and junior second baseman Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.) (1-for-4) were responsible for the other Gwynedd Mercy University hits. The Griffin bullpen was solid as sophomore Joe Golden (Churchville, Pa.) (1.2 IP, 2H), sophomore Giovanni D'Amore (Ambler, Pa.) (0.2 IP), sophomore Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) (1.0 IP), and freshman Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) (1.0 IP) combined for four and a third innings of scoreless relief.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, February 23, when they visit Rosemont College for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
