Philadelphia, PA - (12/30/22) - The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Basketball Team fell 35-98 to the University of Pennsylvania at the Palestra. The Griffin's fell to 7-6 on the year, while Penn improved to 7-5.

Highlights:

• The bench provided some much needed assistance, providing 16 of the 38 total points. Ava Casale led the charge (and Gwynedd's scoring on the night) with 7 points.
• Cayla Sharkey pulled in 6 defensive rebounds (7 total), giving her 66 on the year (4th, AEC). She also added a block, pulling her season total to 27 (2nd, AEC).
• Elise Sylvester added 4 assists, bringing her season total to 52 (2nd, AEC).
   

The Griffins put up a fight at the Palestra tonight, but the Quakers proved to be too strong of an opponent for them to overcome. Penn got off to a fast start, scoring a three on their first possession, and causing a turnover on the Griffin's first possession that led to another score. With momentum in their favor, they never relented. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 20-5. By the end of the night, the Griffins would take the loss but the whole roster got some game experience against a D-1 opponent under the bright lights on the big stage.  

The Griffs will be back in action on Wednesday January 4^th when they open up conference play at home against Immaculata at 6pm.
