Staten Island, N.Y. - (12/22/2022) - Wagner College (7-4) could not lose Gwynedd Mercy University (5-7) in the first half of tonight's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I exhibition as the Griffins tied the Seahawks at 10-10 (14:26) and rallied from a nine-point deficit, 19-10 (9:25), to knot the contest at 31-31 (0:49) and trail 35-32 (0:03) at intermission. Gwynedd Mercy University kept the difference in single digits until Wagner College took a 43-32 lead with 16:41 to play. Unfortunately, the Griffins never recovered in an eventual 89-55 final.
Griffin Highlights
- Efficient shooting kept Gwynedd Mercy University in the first half as the Griffins shot 13-of-20 (.650) from the field, 3-of-7 (.429) from three-point range, and 3-of-6 (.500) from the free throw line.
- Junior guard Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.) led the Griffin in the period with a dozen (12) points, three rebounds, and an assist. He finished the contest with a team-high 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
- Junior forward JoHann Vinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) was a solid compliment with nine points, four rebounds, and an assist.
- The scored tied on four occasions and the lead changed hands six times.
Gwynedd Mercy University breaks for the holidays and will return to action on Wednesday, January 4, when they host Penn State Brandywine for an 8:00 p.m. tipoff.
