Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) (8-of-12, .750), a balanced Gwynedd Mercy University (4-1) effort earned the Griffins a 71-53 victory at Wilkes University (1-1). Gwynedd Mercy University made their presence felt in the third quarter, quickly improving a 30-26 halftime advantage to a 43-28 (7:17, 3QTR) perch with the inside-outside combination of senior forward
Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior guard
Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.). From there, free throws carried the Griffins through the remainder of the 18-point win.
Griffin Highlights
- Gwynedd Mercy University dominated the time at the charity stripe and made the most of it with success on 27-of-35 (.771) chances. Conversely, Wilkes University was only 4-of-10 (.400) at the free throw line.
- The Griffin defense forced the Colonels into 27 turnovers.
- Eggers led five Griffins in double figures with 19 points; she also recorded nine rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
- Sylvester partnered her 13 points with three rebounds and an assist.
- Junior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- Owens had two steals in addition to her 10-point contribution. Sharkey finished with five points, six rebounds, an assist, five blocks, and a steal.
- Junior forward Natalie O'Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds while scoring five points.
