Scranton, Pa. - (11/1/2022) - As the #5 seed in the 2022 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament, Gwynedd Mercy University (8-18) traveled to #4 Marywood University (14-15) for this evening's quarterfinal match. The Griffins won the first (25-21) and fourth (25-20) sets, but the Pacers drove the action with back-to-back wins in the second (25-21) and third (25-15) sets, and a closing four-point run in a 15-11 fifth-set final; 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11).

Griffin Highlights

• A more even-keeled approach saw Gwynedd Mercy University hit above .100 in the first (.171; 11K-5E-35TA), third (.120; 8K-5E-25TA), and fourth (.189; 13K-6E-37TA) sets of the match.
• Both the Griffins and the Pacers recorded eight aces; senior libero Ashley Morris (Quakertown, Pa.) recorded half (4) of Gwynedd Mercy University's service points.
• Junior outside hitter Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) recorded a team-high 19.5 points with 19 kills and a block assist.
• Junior middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) totaled 14.5 points with 13 kills and a pair of blocks (1 solo, 1 assisted).
• Freshman setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) provided 36 assists, while Morris hustled to 16 digs.

Gwynedd Mercy University finishes the 2022 season with an 8-18 overall mark and a 2-4 conference standing.
