Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/29/2022) - #4 Gwynedd Mercy University (7-10) hosted #5 Immaculata University (7-9) for today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Quarterfinal. The Griffins and Mighty Macs battled through four scoreless frames and two scoreless overtime periods to decide the postseason contest by shootout. Immaculata University won the shootout 4-3 to advance to a November-2 semifinal contest at #1 St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University owned a 13-10 shot advantage and a 10-6 edge in penalty corners in a highly-competitive postseason contest.
• The Griffins had six penalty corners between the second and third quarters, but came away empty handed.
• Sophomore forward Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor, N.J.) took the first shot of the contest late in the first quarter (12:43).
• Graduate forward Caitlyn Thornton (Ivyland, Pa.) had a penalty stroke opportunity with 12 seconds (59:48) remaining in the contest, but was denied on a brilliant save by sophomore goalkeeper Julia Lavase (Claymont, Del.).
• Thornton, Avellino, and senior midfielder Haley Didinger (Berlin, N.J.) each recorded three shots for the Griffins.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) totaled four saves in the loss (7-10). 

Gwynedd Mercy University finishes their 2022 season at 7-10 overall and 3-3 in AEC play.
