Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (10/14-2022) – Gwynedd Mercy University played host to Neumann University in an Atlantic East Conference (AEC) matchup. After a rough first set going the way to the Knights (25-11), the Griffins were able to claw back and grab the second set 25-23. Neumann University prevailed as they would take the third and fourth sets (25-16, 25-17) allowing the Knights to walk away with the victory. Junior outside hitter
Bria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) scored a team-high 17 points with 14 kills, two aces, and two block assists.
Neumann University (8-15, 1-2) started the first set on a 10-2 run before Gwynedd Mercy University (7-13, 2-2) was forced to call an early timeout. The Griffins attempted a comeback, but the Knights were able to take the first set 25-11. The second set started back and forth with eventually Gwynedd Mercy taking a 21-19 advantage causing Neumann to call a timeout. The Knights would take the first point out of the timeout; however, the Griffins would go on to win the second set 25-23. Neumann going into the third set jumped out to a 12-6 advantage which would be too much for Gwynedd Mercy to overcome as they would fall in the third set 25-16. The fourth set was back and forth with the Griffins rattling off five unanswered points training the Knights 18-17 which forced Neumann University to use a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Knights would not drop another point winning the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Amanda Lopez (Houston, Texas) finished with a team-high 15 digs. She also tallied 3.5 points with 2 aces, a block, and a block assist.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues AEC play when they travel to Cabrini University on Wednesday, October 19, for a 7:00 p.m. match.
