GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A five-run seventh inning helped key a big 16-12 Atlantic East victory over Wesley Friday afternoon.
The team battled back from a 9-6 deficit, crossing two runs in the sixth before the big inning in the seventh highlighted by a huge two-run single from
Frank Ebling to keep GMercyU on top.
Ebling,
T.J. Brasier, and
Billy Collins all had three hit apiece as the team tied a season high with 17. Brasier and Collins also scored four times each, which were personal bests for both.
Wesley struck first off of starter
Mitchell Bramsway, scoring three run in the first. Gwynedd got two of those runs back in the bottom half as
Noah Andress drove in Brasier. Collins who was at third made a dash for home after an error on the relay back into the infield for the second run.
In the second, Brasier hit a two-run double and later Andress drove in pair to give the home team a 6-3 advantage. The teams traded sac flies in the third before the Wolverines plated two runs in the fourth.
Rob Bailey entered in the fourth and limited the damage to just those two runs after getting an inning-ending strikeout with runners on first and third.
Wesley tacked on four runs over the next two innings to lead 10-7 before the Brasier scored on a wild pitch and
Will Brownlowe added another team sac fly in the sixth to cut it to one run.
With the bags full in the seventh and a run already across, Ebling hit the second pitch of the at-bat between third and short to score Brasier and Brownlowe.
For the game Brasier was officially 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI's and a walk.
Bobby Heck added three walks while going 2-for-3 with a double.
Alex Kaupp entered in the seventh in relief of Bailey where he picked up the win.
Alex Ritter yielded just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts over the final two innings to pick up his first career save.
The two teams play again tomorrow in an AEC Doubleheader in Dover starting at noon.
