Griffin Playoff Push Ends In DH Loss At Neumann

ASTON, PA. – Gwynedd Mercy fell to Neumann in both games of an Atlantic East Doubleheader on Friday, knocking the Griffins out of the playoff picture. The Knights took game one, 16-3, and the second, 22-4.

Game one
In the seven-inning affair, Neumann used a big fourth inning to open up a sizable advantage. GMercyU cross their three runs in the sixth on RBI's from Connor Boyd and Rob Bailey. Jake Martell scored on a heads up play off an infield single as well.

Starter Frank Ebling allowed five earned on six hits as he factored into the decision.

Ryan Lopez was 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI's for the home team.

Game two
The Griffins, who needed to win one of the two games on the day to clinch a playoff berth, got into an early hole as Neumann scored runs in the second and third innings. Later on, the Knights scored eight runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

In the eighth, Nick Price drove in two runs with his two-out single while Bobby Heck added an RBI single. T.J. Brasier led off the ninth with a double to right and would come around to score on a Noah Andress single.

Brian Wildrick pitched into the fourth inning and was charged with the loss.

Gwynedd Mercy closes the book on their 2021 season under first-year head coach Pete O'Hara and says goodbye to their seniors in Heck, Wildrick, Alex Ritter, George Stewart, Shaun Thomas and Will Brownlowe. With the exception of Brownlowe, who joined the team last season as a transfer, the other five players were members of the inaugural Atlantic East Champions in 2019.
