GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy picked up a big 11-2 victory over Neumann on Thursday in an Atlantic East Conference matchup to help bolster their postseason fate.
The two teams will play tomorrow in a doubleheader at Neumann with the Griffins needing to win one game to clinch the fourth playoff seed and host a play-in game on Tuesday against Wesley.
For the game, GMercyU used big innings in the third and seventh to notch their third win in their last four games.
Starter
Mitchell Bramsway yielded just one run on six hits in seven innings of work to give the freshman his first collegiate victory.
Bobby Heck,
Billy Collins, and
Noah Andress each had two hits while
Frank Ebling cranked a two-run homer in the fifth and
Brett Swire keyed that four-run seventh with a bases-loaded clearing double. Swire walked three times while Ebling scored three times.
After the Knights took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single from Zach Ray, Gwynedd responded in the bottom half, getting two-run singles from Collins and
Shaun Thomas to go with the five-spot to jump back ahead.
In the fifth, the Griffins got a defensive spark from
T.J. Brasier to help keep the momentum. With a runner on first and two outs, Ray doubled to right where Brasier's throw home was able to get the final out of the inning.
A leadoff single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases in the seventh where Swire doubled to left to drive in all three runners. Brasier would later single home Swire to make it 11-1.
Ray was 3-for-5 with teammate Marcus White adding a pair of doubles for Neumann.
