IMMACULATA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy won convincingly in game two, 12-1, to help split an Atlantic East Conference Doubleheader at Immaculata on Friday. The Mighty Macs took game one, 10-6.
Game one
Both teams traded blows early on as the two were locked up at 5-5 after just the second inning. GMercyU wouldn't score until the seventh, but not before IU took a five-run lead.
Brianna Polly doubled twice, scored a run and knocked in a run in the first game for the Griffins.
Emma Carney and
Jocelyn Baumeister also doubled for the visitors.
For Immaculata, Cat Knoll was 4-for-4 with a two-run homer in the first and later a two-run double as part of a four-run fourth.
Maddy McBride started and went four innings while allowing six earned runs on nine hits.
Game two
The Griffins scored a season-high 12 runs while pounding out 13 hits.
Grace Scally drove in three runs while Carney,
Shylynn Cordero,
Ashley Focht, and
Victoria Moscariello all had two hits apiece.
Focht, who also scored twice and added a pair of RBI's, scattered six hits with one run in the circle, adding two strikeouts and no walks to pick up her first win of the season.Â
Scally's two-run single highlighted a five-run first inning for the Griffins. After crossing a run in the second, the team broke it open in the fourth, plating six runs on just five hits and taking advantage of two IU errors.
The two teams play again tomorrow in a pair of games at Gwynedd Mercy starting at noon.
