DOVER, DE. -- Gwynedd Mercy's attempt to salvage a doubleheader at Wesley in game two was foiled as the Wolverines got a walk-off RBI single to take both games on Tuesday. Wesley chalked up an 8-0 victory in game one and took the nightcap, 6-5.
Game one
The Griffins were limited to three hits from Wolverine starter Dori Loukopoulos who walked two and struck out eight batters.
Loukopoulos also was a thorn at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI's.
Emma Carney doubled while
Shylynn Cordero and
Maddy McBride added base hits for GMercyU.
Game two
After rallying from a 2-0 deficit, the Griffins finally took their first lead of the game in the seventh thanks to a big two-out RBI single from
Jocelyn Baumeister. Leading 5-4 going into the bottom half, Wesley crossed two including a game-ending RBI single from Miranda Kinney.
Carney had two hits for Gwynedd while
Grace Scally and
Ashley Haggerty each drove in two runs.
Brianna Polly walked twice and scored a run.
The team erased a 4-2 hole in the sixth, getting RBI's from Scally and Haggerty before taking a brief lead in the seventh.
Gwynedd Mercy kicks off a weekend series with Immaculata on Friday on the road before the two teams meet here on Saturday.
