GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Three goals each from
Jason Eide and
Nick Flamma while goalie
Chase McFeeley made seven fourth-quarter saves to help lift Gwynedd Mercy to a big 9-7 Atlantic East Conference victory over Marywood on Saturday.
Eide added an assist to lead the team with four points while McFeeley totaled 16 saves.
Lucas Gray,
Zac Wallen, and
Justin Carney also tallied for the Griffins who led from start to finish.
Marywood's Zach Vaughan totaled four points on three goals and an assist. Teammate Jeff Johnsen added a pair of helpers for the visitors. Pacer goalie Connor Reed made 14 stops in the cage.
GMercyU cashed in on the game's first penalty with a score from Flamma 4:04 into the contest for the first of the team's two man-up tallies. After Vaughan set up Dalton Metzger just over a minute later to tie it, Wallen potted his first goal of the season with 2:59 in the first and a 2-1 edge.
Goals from Flamma, Gray, and Eide in the second looked to open up a big lead for the home squad, but Vaughan and the Pacers got a late score to make it a 5-2 contest at the half.
The Pacers outscored Gwynedd, 3-2, in the third to get with two heading into the final frame. In the fourth, Eide netted his third of the day with 7:40 left then set up Flamma two minutes later for a 9-5 score. Marywood made things interesting with two late scores but the Griffins were able to put the game on ice for their second conference win.
Both teams were even in shots (43-43) and nearly in groundballs (16-14). Carney and Wallen each snagged four GB's apiece to lead Gwynedd.
The Griffins are back in action on Wednesday when they welcome Cabrini in an AEC contest starting at 4 p.m.
