Late Goal From Kane Lifts Women's Lax Over Neumann

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Jill Kane scored twice in the final 1:46 including the eventual game winner with just 17 ticks on the clock to help lift Gwynedd Mercy to an exciting 11-10 come-from-behind Atlantic East victory over Neumann on Wednesday.

The Griffins trailed the entire contest and battled back from a three-goal deficit at the half to lock up a first-round home playoff game next Saturday. Gwynedd will be the No. 4 playoff seed and appears to host these same Knights in an AEC Tournament matchup.

For the game, Kane totaled three goals and two assists. Victoria Braeunle also registered three scores and two helpers while Victoria Mollitor netted four tallies and added an assist.

Down 3-1 midway in the first, back-to-back scores from Mollitor less than a minute apart helped to tie things up. The Knights however were able to put together a three-goal stretch in the last 2:07 of the half to build a 7-4 edge at the break.

GMercyU opened the second on goals from Damali Teagle and Braeunle to shrink the lead to one. Neumann's Brylin Adams netted her fourth of the game with 14 minutes to go giving the Knights a 9-7 advantage. Mollitor set up Braeunle for a score at the 11:12 mark and later Braeunle would return the favor, assisting on Mollitor's fourth of the day minutes later to knot the game up at 9-9.

Lindsay Fagan gave the Knights the lead with 6:57 to play, but the Griffins finally broke through Neumann goalie Catriona Corrigan, who made 10 of her 16 saves in the second half. After two stops in successive possessions, Kane was able to tie things up with 1:46. Teagle won the ensuing draw to set up the offense where Kane found paydirt again for their first lead of the game.

Goalie Reilly Owens registered five of her seven saves in the second stanza.

Neumann did not go quietly, also winning the ensuing draw with seconds to spare but were unable to get a shot off before the final horn sounded.
