ASTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in an Atlantic East Conference Doubleheader at Neumann on Tuesday, losing a tough 4-3 decision in 10 innings in game one, and a 3-0 defeat in game two.
Game one
Gwynedd built a 3-0 lead after five innings but the Knights were able to tie it up in the seventh and force extra innings. An infield single in the bottom of the tenth gave Neumann the walk-off win.
Emma Carney made it 1-0 in the third when she singled home
Victoria Moscariello with two outs. GMercyU plated two more runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Brianne Polly and later an RBI groundout from Carney for a three-run lead.
Neumann answered in the bottom half with two runs of their own to cut into the lead.
Starter
Ashley Focht worked all nine innings in the circle, giving up two unearned runs. Gwynedd yielded the tying run in the seventh with two outs after an error allowed a runner to score from second. Focht would walk to start the ninth and would move all the way to third before a strikeout could get her across.
Carney and Polly were each 1-for-4. Polly added a pair of stolen bases.
Game two
The Griffins were limited to three hits and saw Neumann score two runs in the third and another in the fourth. The game would be called for darkness after their at-bat in the sixth.
Ashley Haggerty added a double while
Shylynn Cordero picked up a stolen base. Starter
Maddy McBride struck out three while allowing three walks.
Wednesday's game at home against the Knights has been postponed and will be rescheduled for Tuesday, April 6th at 3 p.m.
