SCRANTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy began their 2021 season at Marywood but came away with a 15-3 defeat to the Pacers on Saturday in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Jill Kane,
Damali Teagle, and
Meleah Hoats scored for the Griffins. Kane,
Laura Pelczar, and
Lindsay Anderson each registered two caused turnovers. Teagle collected a personal-best three draws.
Defensively, goalie
Reilly Owens hit a personal milestone, recording a career-high 17 saves in the contest. The sophomore also led the team with four groundballs.
Marywood's Brielle Peters led all scorers with nine goals, seven of which came in the second half. After Teagle's score 2:52 into the game, the Pacers answered but it would stay tied for over 12 minutes. Later, Marywood potted four goals over a four-minute span to open up a five-goal lead. Kane capped the scoring in the first half for GMercyU, but the Griffins trailed 6-2 at the break.
The Pacers put in four goals in the first five minutes of the second half to open up a sizable advantage.
Kayla McCabe added three goals and teammate Natalie Walker added two tallies and a game-high three assists for Marywood.
Gwynedd Mercy continues action on Wednesday when they travel to Cabrini for an AEC tilt starting at 3:30 p.m.
