GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Baseball Team took on Montclair State in a season-opening doubleheader on Saturday but fell in both contests. The Red Hawks took game one, 5-2, and the nightcap, 15-2.

Game one
The Griffins came back to tie things up twice before a three-run eighth by Montclair State broke the deadlock. Will Brownlowe collected two hits, including a double, run scored and an RBI.

Down 1-0 in the fourth, Brownlowe's two-out single plated Billy Collins to get GMercyU on the board. After MSU scored an unearned run in the seventh, once again the Griffins answered in the bottom half of the frame. After a lead-off double from Brownlowe, he would eventually come around to score on a sac fly form Rob Bailey.

Hayden Reyes hit a two-run single as part of a three-run eighth to put Montclair ahead by three runs. The Red Hawk bullpen allowed just one hit over the final two innings to help cement the score.

Starter Brian Wildrick threw five innings, scattering one run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Game two
Brett Swire was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI but it was Montclair State scoring four runs each in the first and third innings to open up a sizable lead. The game was called after the sixth due to darkness setting in.

The team got two of those runs back in the third when Swire doubled home Jake Martell. Swire later scored on an error in right field.

MSU took advantage of two errors with two outs in the fourth to go on and plate six runs on three hits and three walks. Daniel Clemente was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a double short of the cycle.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Tuesday when they play at Centenary.
