Easton, Pa. - (12/22/2021) - Gwynedd Mercy University (8-3) visited Lafayette College (3-8) for this evening's pre-holiday exhibition contest. The Griffins kept pace with the Leopards for the opening five minutes, 8-8 (15:39), but gradually fell behind the home team by a 48-24 (0:10) halftime deficit and eventually a 87-66 final. Sophomore guard
Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) led three Griffins in double figures with 14 points. He also recorded five rebounds and an assist while being joined in double figures by senior guard
Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) (12 points) and fellow sophomore guard
Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.) (10). Graduate forward
Donaven Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) was also a factor with eight points, 13 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
Jones led the Griffins in a balanced first-half effort that left Gwynedd Mercy University down 24 points, 48-24 (0:10) at intermission. The Griffins momentarily cut the deficit to less than 20 points with a three-point basket from senior guard
Jaye'Lyn Peebles (Chester, Pa.) that reduced the difference to 19 points, 65-46, with 6:52 to play. Unfortunately, that is as close as Gwynedd Mercy University would get as Lafayette College put four in double figures, out-rebounded the Griffins 51-40, and shot 46.2% (30-of-65) from the floor in the exhibition affair.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action in the New Year as they visit Rutgers-Camden for a 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3.
