Griffins Delay Mighty Macs to Second-Half Scores In AEC Affair

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/23/2021) - Despite a 21-3 shooting deficit, Gwynedd Mercy University (4-9, 0-5) held Immaculata University (2-12, 2-4) scoreless in the opening half. Freshman goalkeeper Molly Flemming (Warminster, Pa.) and her backfield; senior Lauren Pelczar (Philadelphia, Pa.), senior Brianna McDonald (Yardley, Pa.), senior defender Haliegh Kaufmann (Yardley, Pa.), and sophomore defender Julia Smuszkiewicz (Warminster, Pa.) did their best to keep the Mighty Macs' shots high and wide until 50:45, when a Immaculata University corner kick fell at the feet of junior defender Corrie Karas (Westminster, Md.), 1-0. The Might Macs added to their advantage at 70:20, when freshman midfielder Rachel McNamee (Honey Brook, Pa.) completed a lead down the left flank, 2-0. Pelczar, freshman forward Keyra Heinlein (Lansdale, Pa.), senior midfielder Megan Crammer (Riverside, N.J.), and senior forward Raegan Kennedy (Philadelphia, Pa.) created some late pressure for Gwynedd Mercy University, but conclusion remained unchanged.

Flemming (4-9) recorded her fourth double digit save performance of the season as she totaled 16 saves in the loss. Pelczar and Kennedy led the Griffins' offensive effort with two shots apiece.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletics Complex on Wednesday, October 23, when they welcome Centenary University to campus for a 6:00 p.m. AEC kickoff.
