Gwynedd Mercy Hosts Saints and Fords In Afternoon Tri-Match

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/16/2021) - Gwynedd Mercy University 7-16, 0-3) served as host for an afternoon women's volleyball tri-match as Atlantic East Conference (AEC) rival Marymount University (11-9, 4-0) and Haverford College (18-4) visited the Griffin Complex. The Griffins squared off opposite the Saints in the first match and surrendered the conference prize in three sets; 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16). Marymount University completed their perfect day with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) triumph over the Fords. In the finale, Gwynedd Mercy University trailed Haverford University most of the way in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-18) final.

Sophomore outside hitter Aybria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) led Gwynedd Mercy University against Marymount University with six points (5 kills, 1 ace). Senior setter Bridget McTamney (Conshohocken, Pa.) supported her with a kill, a dozen (12) assists, an ace, and a dozen digs. Senior libero Ashley Morris (Quakertown, Pa.) captained the Griffins' defensive efforts with 12 digs. She also recorded three assists.

Versus the Fords, sophomore middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) was the lead Griffin with seven points (5 kills, 1 ace, 2 block assists). McTamney totaled 13 assists and four digs, while Morris made 12 digs in excess of a kill, an assist, and an ace. Freshman middle blocker Lexi Lane (Frederick, Colo.) recorded 6.5 points with six kills and a block assist.

Gwynedd Mercy University visits Neumann University on Wednesday, October 20, for a 7:00 p.m. AEC match.
