Letter From President and Athletic Director To Our Student-Athletes

March 19, 2020

Dear Gwynedd Mercy University Student-Athletes,

We write to inform you of the decision by the Atlantic East Conference and the Presidents Council to cancel the remaining 2020 spring season and championships. This decision was difficult to make, but necessary. Our society is in the midst of an unprecedented time that has impacted our normal daily activities.

From the Atlantic East Commissioner, Jessica Huntley, "We recognize the disappointment that this decision will bring to our student-athletes, families and fans; however, with the new CDC recommendations and ever-changing local, state and national restrictions, we felt it was in the best interest of our student-athletes, campus support staff and local communities."

To our spring student-athletes, we are all upset at the sudden end to your season.  You have all worked so hard to prepare yourself, and your team, for a successful spring season.  We are confident that you will be back next season ready to represent Griffin Nation!

To our senior spring student-athletes, we know it hurts that your intercollegiate athletic career has ended. We speak for everyone in the Gwynedd Mercy University athletic department when we say thank you for all that you have done to represent our university.  Your actions on and off the playing field have brought pride and honor to the university. We cannot thank you enough for your dedication and the standard you have set for future Griffins!

Spring student-athletes, if you choose to continue your education in graduate school or if you are finishing up your undergraduate degree, the NCAA has granted a blanket waiver to all spring student-athletes.

Student-athlete seasons of participation and eligibility.  Approved a blanket waiver for all student-athletes participating in spring sports as follows: (a) Waive the use of a season of participation for all student-athletes in spring sports. (b) Waive the use of the spring semester towards their limit of 10 semesters/15 quarters, regardless of whether they used a season.

Please contact Keith if you have questions regarding NCAA eligibility.

We want to thank our coaches and staff who have been so helpful and supportive during this time.  Every person in the athletic department truly cares about every single student-athlete.  Their leadership during your collegiate years will serve as the cornerstone for your careers outside of Gwynedd Mercy University.  Our coaches are outstanding professionals that want nothing but the best for you.

During our time apart, please remember the gratitude that everyone in the athletic department has for all of you!  We are proud to call you Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins!

Please be safe during this time and we look forward to seeing you very soon.

It is our honor to be your President and Director of Athletics!
Wishing you All the Best,

Deanne H. D'Emilio
President

Keith Mondillo
