EDWARDSVILLE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy's late comeback ran out of time in a close 12-11 decision at Wilkes University on Saturday.
Down three goals with 14 minutes to play, the Griffins were able to pull within one on a tally from
Samantha Brown with 1:50 remaining in the contest. However, the Colonels were able to keep possession to run out the clock
Brown led the Griffins with four goals and assist for five points on the day.
Victoria Braeunle added three scores and assist while
Victoria Mollitor,
Meleah Hoats,
Laura Pelczar and
Jessica Ziegler each added to the scoring column.
Defensively Braeunle picked up a team high 11 groundballs and caused six turnovers. Pelczar led Gwynedd with seven draw controls.
Camryn Devitt and Lauren Delamater led Wilkes with four goals apiece.
Down two goals late in the first, GMercyU put together four-straight to jump back ahead 8-6. They would lead 8-7 at the half. The Colonels used a three-goal spurt of their own in the second to lead by three before Gwynedd started their comeback.
Reilly Owens made seven stops in goal for the Griffins while Sarah Carlini made 13 stops for Wilkes.
GMercyU returns back to action on Wednesday at Delaware Valley University at 4 p.m.
