Griffins Outrun Penn State-Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, PA. – Freshman Kelly Owens hit six three-pointers including one to open the second quarter giving Gwynedd Mercy the lead for good as the Griffins ran away from Penn State-Harrisburg, 100-75, Wednesday evening.

Owens was one of four Griffins in double figures as she totaled a team-high 19 points. The six triples tied for fourth-most in a single game in program history. Jill Kane and Shannon Carroll each added 12 while Tolu Omole kicked in 10. Kane added a personal-best six steals as the team racked up 21 while turning 31 PSU turnovers into 44 points.

Kendis Butler went for a game-high 33 points for Harrisburg as she hit 10 of the team's 18 threes. Anna Mahan contributed 22 in the defeat.

Butler scored 12 points in the first quarter helping PSU to get out to an 18-8 lead with 3:37 in the frame. Back-to-back three's from Omole and Sydney Thompson kickststarted a game-changing run. Gwynedd whittled the score to 23-22 heading into the second where they kept their foot on the gas pedal. Since the 10-point deficit, GMercyU went on a 29-8 run that turned into an 18-point lead at the half.

Haley Crossley was the top rebounder with seven with Tamia Wessels doling out five assists.

The team kicks off Atlantic East action on Saturday when they play at Marywood.
