ABINGTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy began 2020 with a 75-60 victory at Penn State-Abington on Friday night.
The Griffins started the game on a 19-5 run and did not look back. The team shot 47% from the floor (26-of-55) while limiting the Nittany Lions to just 34%. Additionally, Gwynedd turned 29 Abington turnovers into 32 points, helping them to a double-digit lead for most of the contest.
GMercyU was led on the scoresheet by
Rich Dunham who netted a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. The senior added a team-high three steals and dished out a pair of assists.
Donaven Spencer (12 points) and
Nathaniel Walker (10 points) also reached double digits in the win.
Austin Harriott was team's the top rebounder, pulling down six.
For PSU-Abington, Mark Davis came off the bench to score 15 for the home team.
A three from Davis late in the first half made it an eight-point contest, but Gwynedd answered with five points to close the stanza and lead 46-33 at the break. The Griffins kept a double-figure advantage, leading by as much as 21 on two occasions, the last coming with 2:32 remaining.
The team is back at it on Monday evening when they return home to take on Rutgers-Camden in a 7 p.m. tip.
