SCRANTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy notched a win in their Atlantic East Conference opener at Marywood on Saturday, downing the Pacers, 74-61.
The Griffins used a big 13-3 run in the late stages of the second half to help open up a double-figure lead.
Leading the charge was
Rich Dunham as the senior flirted with a triple double, totaling 26 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Dunham netted 19 of those points in the second half alone.
Austin Harriott and
Nathaniel Walker each netted 13 points while
Donaven Spencer kicked in 11.
Dunham, Harriott and Walker each added three steals while Harriott blocked three shots.
After shooting 37% in the first stanza, Gwynedd trailed 30-29 at the half. The team would battle through seven ties and 11 lead changes over the final 20 minutes.
Jack DeGroot's three point play gave the Pacers a 54-53 lead with eight minutes to go in the game. From there, Walker's bucket restored the lead for good and help ignite the game-changing scoring run over a four-minute span. GMercyU held that 10-point plus edge the rest of the way.
The team turned 25 Marywood turnovers into 28 points while holding a 42-29 advantage on the glass.
On Wednesday, the Griffins head to Cabrini for an Atlantic East Conference clash.
