GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy's
Allison Campbell scored twice, including her first career overtime goal to help lift Gwynedd Mercy over Oneonta, 3-2 on Saturday.
With 9:13 left in the first quarter, the junior attacker's quick reflexes allowed her to put in her first goal of the day off of a rebound. Â
Goalie
Abi Kennedy held the Red Dragons scoreless until 7:30 remaining in the first half when Emily Raymond scored off of a corner to make it 1-1. It remained tied as the teams went into the half. Â
Both teams continued to press on, but none found the back of the cage until
Alyssa Tomsic scored her second goal of the season late in the third quarter. Â
Oneonta did not go away, answering less than a minute in the fourth on a score from Colleen Geyer off a corner. The Red Dragons had five corners in that fourth quarter, but Kennedy and the Griffins stood tall. Â
Just 90 seconds into OT, the Griffins broke free thanks to an aggressive play by
Michaela Swenk. The junior powered through Oneonta's defense and connected with a streaking Campbell, who set herself up beautifully for a one on one with the goalie where she buried her fourth on the year and more importantly the victory.
Kennedy finished the day with three stops, as did Oneonta keeper Kristy Campana.
The Griffins will be back in action this Wednesday as Arcadia heads up Route 309 for a 6 p.m. start. Â
