Men's Lacrosse Falls In Atlantic East Title Game

2019 Atlantic East Men's Lacrosse Championship

RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in the finals of the 2019 Atlantic East Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship to Cabrini, 21-6, Saturday afternoon.

The second-seeded Griffins got two goals from Joseph Pandolfi and scores from Ryan Simpson, Jacob Dzierzgowski, Nick Freda, and Daniel Decker. Dzierzgowski added two assists while Pandolfi and Ryan Gartenmayer also kicked in an assist each.

Cabrini's Jordan Krug led all attackers with 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Teammate Kyle Tucker scored five times with Jakob Klein adding four as the top-seeded Cavaliers built an early advantage that Gwynedd could not overcome.

Dzierzgowski and Pandolfi scored back-to-back in the second quarter to get the team on the board. However, the Griffins went scoreless until the end of the third when Simpson's tally made the score 17-3.

Gwynedd goalie Aubron Swartley made 14 saves on the day. The trio of Riley White, Matt Nestler and Cassius Christie combined to make 16 stops for Cabrini.

Today's game brings an end to the careers of nine Griffins; Pandolfi, Simpson, Conor Curtin, Daniel Decker, Jordan Dzierzgowski, Mike Leckie, Anthony Pozsonyi, David Reeser, and Shawn Ryan. In the classroom, they will graduate with a combined GPA of 3.45, which is the highest of any graduating class in program history. On the field, they finish with a record of 36-23 and are the first class to make three appearances in a conference championship game (CSAC and Atlantic East), and to have three seasons with double-digit wins.

"They have set the standard for what it means to be a part of our program. These nine young men exemplify what a student-athlete is supposed to be. They have done it right both in the classroom and on the field, and are a shining example for all our current and future players on what a four year career looks like. Their work ethic has been impressive to witness, and shows what can be accomplished when a group of men buy in.  I cannot wait to see what the future holds for each of these young men and would like to thank them for their contributions to our program." stated Head Coach Dana Lindstrom.

The Griffins finish the season with a final record of 10-6 for their second-straight year with 10 or more wins and for the sixth time in the 11-year history of the program.
