GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Neumann totaled 47 goals in a wild Atlantic East Conference matchup, but it was the Knights prevailing, 25-22, Tuesday afternoon.
Samantha Brown notched a career-high 10 points on seven goals and three assists, to tie for the second-most points in a game in program history.
Victoria Mollitor added five goals and
Victoria Braeunle totaled six points on four goals and a pair of helpers.
Laura Pelczar (3),
Jill Kane (2), and
Anna Grace Bernicker also tallied for Gwynedd.
As a team, the Griffins totaled a program-record 27 draw controls and their 22 goals scored tied for third-most. Braeunle picked up 10 draws, a game high.
Kaitlyn Conrad scored eight goals for the Knights. Teammate Brittany Cassidy netted six and added two assists.
Gwynedd led early in the first half, only to see Neumann take a 15-9 lead at the break. GMercyU rallied in the second to get within two goals on two occasions, the last coming with 3:56 remaining (22-20), but the Knights scored three-straight in just over a minute to help open up the lead for good.
A four-goal burst put the Griffins in front, 6-4 at the 18:41 mark of the first. Neumann outscored the team 11-3 for the remainder of the stanza. Gwynedd stayed within six goals in the beginning stages of the second. Brown came alive in that second half, scoring six of her seven goals.
Kane tied a personal-best with four caused turnovers. Braeunle and Pelczar each nabbed four groundballs.
Goalie
Julia Smith made seven saves while Neumann's Catriona Corrigan recorded 12 stops. The teams combined for 80 shots in the contest.
Gwynedd Mercy will continue Atlantic East play on Saturday when they host Immaculata here on Senior Day with a special start time of 11 a.m.
