NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Gwynedd Mercy wrapped up their Spring Break Trip and will return home with a well-earned 4-4 record to match. On Thursday, the squad fell to Michigan-Dearborn, 9-6, but bounced back with a 9-0 win over Penn State-Beaver. Friday's action saw Chatham edge GMercyU, 6-4.
Melissa Hess fired a complete game two hitter in the Griffins 9-0 victory over Penn State-Beaver on Thursday afternoon.
Amanda Clark and
Alyssa Cowan each collected a pair of hits while
Kaylee Craig drove in a pair of RBIs. Gwynedd scored three runs in the second, two runs in the third and four in the sixth. Â Hess finished the game with four strikeouts and allowing just a pair of hits.
Earlier in the day GMercyU fell to Michigan-Dearborn, 9-6. Gwynedd plated six runs in the last three innings but were unable to mount the comeback. Â
Tori Sherwood was 3-for-4, with Clark and
Lauren Waller adding a pair of hits. Â Clark drove in three runs while Waller knocked in a pair. Trailing 7-0 in the fifth, Gwynedd would start a rally with Waller scoring
Rebecca Christoffers and
Brianna Polly. Clark later doubled to plate Waller followed by a Sherwood triple to score Clark. Â The Griffins would mount another rally in the seventh with a Clark two run single to score Waller and
Alex Kinal, but Michigan-Dearborn would close the door for the victory.
Gwynedd closed out their trip on Friday with a 6-4 loss to Chatham University. Christoffers had another two-RBI game while Waller collected a pair of hits with Clark driving in a pair with a two run home-run in the fourth inning. The team looked to rally from a 5-1 deficit in the fourth with a pair of runs in the bottom half.
After the Cougars double in a run in the top of the seventh, Christoffers answered in their final at-bat with a big two-out, two-run double to make it a two-run game. However Chatham would get a grounder for the third out and end the contest.
The team returns to action back up North on Thursday when the team heads to Moravian.
