NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Gwynedd Mercy picked up a pair of wins on Wednesday down in their Spring Break Trip. The Griffins were 11-3 winners over Anna Maria early in the day, then capped that with an 11-1 victory over old CSAC foe Cedar Crest.
Against Anna Maria, GMercyU plated 11 unanswered runs after the Amcats scored three of their own in the first inning.
Amanda Clark and
Emma Clark each had two hits apiece, while
Rebecca Christoffers scored four times and hit a home run for the second day in a row. The team crossed runs in every inning but the third.
Leading 9-3 into the sixth, a sac fly from pinch hitter
Carly Jensen and later a game-ending RBI hit from
Amanda Clark helped seal the outcome.
Brianna Polly notched her first career pitching victory in her first career start.
The offense continued to shine vs. Cedar Crest, where the Griffins totaled 14 hits.
Amanda Clark doubled twice in going 3-for-4 with five RBI's.
Lauren Waller drove in three runs while also adding three hits. Waller and
Emily Shaheen scored three times as well.
After getting a run across in the first on Waller's RBI single, the Griffins plated six in the second on just three hits, three Falcon errors, and a pair of walks. The team tacked on runs in each inning, where the game was called after the fifth.
Melissa Hess picked up the win, allowing just one hit as she threw into the fourth.
The team continues action on Thursday when they square off with Michigan-Dearborn in the afternoon. Gwynedd added to their schedule down there, adding a game with Penn State-Beaver later on.
