WINTER HAVEN, FL. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team closed out their spring trip on Thursday with a pair of wins as the Griffins defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 13-3, in eight innings in the opener followed by an 8-3 victory over Wartburg College in the nightcap for their fourth win in a row.
Bryan Kaelin earned the victory on the mound in the win over RPI. Kaelin worked into the sixth inning allowing just two earned runs with a strikeout.
Matt Pallotta worked two and a third innings of scoreless relief while striking out a trio of batters.
Offensively,
Nick Mulvey and
Ryan Keen each recorded three hits. Mulvey also scored three times and knocked in a pair of RBIs whileÂ
Evan Miller added a pair of RBIs and a pair of hits.
A
Sachael Sciarretta double would plate the Griffins' first run scoring
Tommy Nardini in the second inning. Sciarretta would later score along with
Brandon Gray to take a 3-2 lead. A Miller sac fly to score Keen would help GMercyU retake the lead in the third, 4-3.
Gwynedd would break the game open in the fourth scoring three more runs for a 7-3 lead. The Griffins would capitalize on an error to score a pair of runs followed by a Keen RBI single.
A five run eighth inning would put GMercyU ahead 13-3.
Nick Mulvey would start the inning with an RBI single. Nardini then scored a run with an hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Miller followed with a run-scoring single. RBI's from
Justin Curtin and Sciarretta would close out the frame.
In the nightcap,
Brian Wildrick earned the win working seven and third innings as the junior allowed just one earned run while striking out a pair.
Keen notched a pair of hits, including his 100th and 101st of his career.
Sciarretta and
Jason Mulvey, along with Keen, all collected two hits.
Keen would give the Griffins a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first scoring two runners with a single. Tied 2-2 in the seventh Gwynedd opened the offense again scoring five runs in the frame. Â

Josh Lopez to start the rally followed by a Sciarretta single to bring home
Cameron Culver.
Nick Mulvey would follow with a one-out RBI single. Miller would then cap the inning with a big two-out two-run single for the 7-2 lead.
Liam Sullivan worked the ninth in relief for the Griffins fourth win in a row.
Gwynedd returns back to action on Saturday when they travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
