Softball Drops Two At Penn State-Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, PA. -- Penn State-Harrisburg handed Gwynedd Mercy a non-conference doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon. The Griffins fell 4-3 on a walk-off single in game one, and 8-3 in the nightcap.

Game one
Lauren Waller went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Tori Sherwood and Emma Clark also added RBIs.

Scoreless into the fourth, GMercyU got on the board with a pair in the fifth. Waller's leadoff triple helped her score on Sherwood's RBI groundout. Clark made it 2-0 with her infield single to score Amanda Clark.

PSU-Harrisburg countered with two in the bottom half on three hits and one Gwynedd error.

Waller singled in Rebecca Christoffers all the way from first in the sixth to reclaim a 3-2 lead. Again, the Lions answered with a run on an RBI double from Sarah Coolbaugh.

Coolbaugh reached in the seventh with a double and scored on a single from Nina Bruno take the first game.

Emma Clark scattered three earned runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts. PSU's Allison Hartman fanned six with just one walk on three runs (one earned) and four hits.

Game two
Alyssa Cowan's two-run double in the first helped get the Griffins out to a 2-0 lead. The Lions took advantage of three Gwynedd errors in their first at-bat score plate four runs (three unearned).

The deficit became 8-2 in the fifth as PSU again scored four times (three unearned) on four hits and two GMercyU errors.

Amanda Clark plated Christoffers on a groundout in the fifth to account for the final run.

Christoffers scored twice with a walk while Sherwood stole two bases.

Alexis Gartner suffered the loss, yielding just two earned runs on nine hits with two K's and a walk.

The team will play its home opener on Thursday when they welcome Kean for two at 3 p.m.
