GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered a 22-11 defeat to DeSales Wednesday evening as the Bulldogs gave the Griffins their first home loss.
Victoria Braeunle paced GMercyU with seven points on four goals and three assists. The sophomore added seven draws and three caused turnovers.
Victoria Mollitor added three goals while
Meleah Hoats (two goals),
Samantha Brown, and
Jill Kane also tallied for Gwynedd. The Griffins kept within striking distance in the first half, but saw the Bulldogs open up the scoring in the second half.
Julia Astram led DeSales with a game-high 10 points, totaling seven goals and three assists with five of those goals coming in the second half.
Gwynedd fell behind 4-0 with 10 minutes gone by in the first. Hoats and Braeunle cut the deficit in half with their two goals less than two minutes apart. The teams went back and forth on the scoring, but the Griffins only trailed 9-6 at the break.
DeSales would hold GMercyU to one goal in a 14 minute span midway in the second half while scoring nine of their own to take a double-digit lead.

Julia Smith recorded seven saves for Gwynedd. The tandem of Rachel Sheubrooks and Lori King combined to make four stops.
The team returns to action on Saturday when they play at Goucher.
